UCLA Arts Newsletter

Since fall 2014, UCLA Arts has invited a member of its community to handpick five things to see and do around Los Angeles each quarter for its ongoing You See LA series. From off-the-beaten-track historic sites, to quirky eateries and neighborhood institutions, to self-guided walking tours and the best arts and culture offerings in a given season, UCLA Arts faculty and alumni have shared their personal insights into the only-in-LA attractions that make our city so vibrant. Read on for selected recommendations to check out this summer, and peruse past editions for a glimpse into the UCLA Arts community's Los Angeles.

THINGS TO DO THIS SUMMER

The Hammer Museum at UCLA’s “Made in L.A. 2018” has been receiving rave reviews as a showcase for artists from the greater Los Angeles area. Of the 32 artists featured in this year’s exhibition, which is the fourth in the biennial series, 11 are UCLA alumni and 10 of those received their degrees from the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture.

The UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance is proud to announce that Tula Strong ’20 (M.F.A., Dance) is the inaugural recipient of the James A. Doolittle Centennial Scholars Fund. A Los Angeles native, Strong is an accomplished artist and scholar who believes in the ability of the arts—especially dance—to break down barriers and unite diverse populations.
